Creating the Collection
I love browsing Pinterest and Instagram for venue styling ideas and the little design details that make events like Weddings just that little bit more special. So earlier this year I decided to take inspiration from these ideas and create my own Event Hire Collection. My collection is made up of beautiful, hand-made, rustic pieces that can be used to add a unique and memorable touch to all kinds of events. The pieces in my hire collection are perfect for Weddings, Engagement Party's, Birthday Party's, Functions, Exhibitions, Markets, Shows and so much more.
For months I spent all the free time I could find designing and making all kinds of functional and decorative pieces. My collection includes an archway, rustic trestle tables, hand-scripted wooden signs, chalk boards and wooden stacking crates. My favorite part of this project was the styling and photography of the completed collection. I enjoyed it so much that I did two photo shoots!
Fall Inspired Photoshoot
The first shoot was in a lovely little Cambridge park during the middle of Winter. I recruited the help of my very clever and creative mum (check out her designs here: Paper Day) and together we set up and styled the full collection together with a whimsically fall, autumn inspired look that perfectly suited the leaf scattered setting.
We used a Magnolia table runner to add greenery to this rustic trestle table and Rimu tealight candle holders. I love the colours of Magnolia, the deep green and golden browns go perfectly with the look and feel of reclaimed timber.
I added crates and wooden boxes to the collection because of their versatility. They can add height to a dessert table at a wedding, display products at a market, hold lawn games and favors for guests, and be stacked with vases of flowers and other decor around a stage or venue entrance. I love the mixture of rustic, white washed crates and reclaimed, raw timber boxes in the collection.
I made these "Mr" and "Mrs" signs specifically for weddings because, although my goal was to create pieces that could be used in a range of settings, I think its super important to make a fuss about the two main people at a wedding. So I made this pair of signs as well as a pair of "His One" and "Her Only" signs that can be hung over the back of the bride and grooms chairs or simply placed on the bridal table alongside other decor.
I made three sets of wooden table number signs. Each set has a unique design so that there is a variety of styles to choose from depending on the theme of the event. With twelve numbers per set, and a mix of white washed and natural timber, with varied hand lettered fonts, there is sure to be a style to suit each theme perfectly.
There's just something nostalgic about beautifully rustic and weathered chalk boards, especially when decorated with pretty hand lettering. I simply could not leave these out of the collection, so I made three chalk board signs in different sizes and designs. These signs can be used in so many ways at all kinds of events, and the largest sign can be hired with a wooden easel if needed.
For venue decor I chose some of my favorite "love" related bible verses and made hand lettered wooden signs. I loved the opportunity to work on my calligraphy as well as read through heaps of lovely verses, the hardest part was picking which ones to make into signs.
Rustic & Whimsical Photoshoot
My second photo shoot was indoors, with a minimal white background and lots of floral's and greenery! For this shoot I wanted to show how versatile the pieces in my collection are and how they can be creatively styled to suit any wedding theme or event. Using wild flowers, string lights, magnolia garlands, tree branches, and lots more beautiful items, I styled each piece of the collection with an elegant, rustic design with a nod to Bohemian, Country and Vintage styles.
I've always loved luscious greenery on any archway or backdrop and magnolia is one of my favourite plants for creating this effect. Not only does it last well for days without any water, but the mix of forest-like greens and browns adds such a pretty palate of colours. The addition of magnolia flowers would be beautiful if its blooming season, otherwise a set of string lights is the perfect finishing touch to a magnolia garland.
Lighting is one of the most important elements of creating atmosphere and I'm obsessed with all kinds of lights. I love these copper string lights, they have such a beautiful, warm glow that adds such a lovely, warming feel to any setting.
I love how these wild flowers look in a bouquet but I'm not sure what their actual name is, so I call them Feather Grass! During Spring and Summer they can be found almost anywhere in our area where there is long grass. I collected heaps of these and other wildflowers and made lots of little bouquets. They were perfect for filling vases and bottles, adding decoration to wooden signs and attaching to the archway with white ribbon. The colors are all a little different and they look gorgeous whether just blooming or fully flourishing.
Also, can we just give a mention to this gorgeous vintage table and chairs set! I added it to the collection mainly because it would make the perfect signing table at a wedding. The reclaimed timber table top has a rustic white washed finish, and the retro table legs match the wire-style chairs perfectly.
Olive leaves make gorgeous, natural confetti and their soft green colour is the prettiest accent to any colour palette. For this styling I chose whites and neutrals, using white washed timber, faux lambs ear stems and galvanised steel. I also added warmth with the raw wood rounds and copper string lights.
This Lambs Ears Wall Hanging was super simple and easy to create. I simply tied each stem to this olive tree branch using ribbon and hung it above the table . I love how it adds a bit of visual interest and height to this styled set up.
My collection of white washed, hanging wooden signs were designed to add a pretty, personalized touch to any wedding. They can be hung almost anywhere or propped against fixed items to help your guests find what they're looking for. I also made a set of three arrow stands for hanging signs, to help direct guests to specific things at a venue. These arrow stands can be staked in the ground and styled with flowers and other items to create a welcoming entrance to any event,
I love how versatile these stacking crates are. Here I have piled them up with wild flowers and greenery to create a modern farmhouse look at the base of a large chalk board sign on an easel. The mix of white washed and natural, timber finishes adds a pretty, reclaimed look that goes perfectly with any additional decor.
Wooden rounds are the perfect way to add a rustic look to any white washed styling. The colors of the wood creates a warm, earthy feel that suits any wedding or event theme. Here I've used a rustic wood round that is full of character, to anchor a scripted table number among string lights and greenery.
Here I have styled the large trestle table with an eclectic and whimsical design. I've used stacking crates, string lights, wild flowers in matte black bottles, wooden bunting flags and lambs ear stems for greenery. I love how this look would suit almost any event theme whether it be rustic bohemian, romantic garden party, traditional and elegant and so many more.
These re-purposed, amber colored glass bottles look beautiful when filled with wild flower bouquets, and nestled within olive leaf garland and string lights. They look gorgeous, especially when they catch the glow of string lights.
Magnolia leaves are another beautiful solution for table decor. Add pretty, hand lettered names with an inky, white pen to make place holders. Magnolia leaves are long lasting and the rich green color adds a beautiful, natural touch to any table setting.
There are so many beautiful ways to decorate and style different events, and ideas and inspiration can be found everywhere! The pieces in my Event Hire Collection have been carefully designed to suit any theme and help to make any special event that little bit more memorable.
